How to read FII and DII data
A minus sign means net selling: the group sold more shares than it bought that day. When FIIs sell heavily, they also convert rupees into dollars, which can weaken the rupee. In 2026, DIIs, powered by monthly SIP money from Indian savers, have often bought almost as much as FIIs sold, which cushions the market.
Worked example: if FIIs are −₹5,285 crore and DIIs +₹3,319 crore on a day, institutions together sold about ₹1,966 crore, so the market more likely fell. One day's number matters less than the trend over weeks.
